Take control of your workplace resentment

26 Nov 2024

Are these examples all too familiar?

An employee expresses their resentment over team members taking advantage of the generous and flexible work schedule. Another employee shares their resentment regarding a colleague who seemed to receive preferential treatment. A third employee vents about the extra time and energy they had invested in a team member who seemed unwilling to take initiative and own their work.

These are everyday examples of resentment at the workplace. It is a complex emotion that can include a combination of feelings of anger, frustration, disappointment, bitterness, jealousy, etc.

I recently came across an informative article published in the HBR that tackles tips on how to diffuse any resentment you might feel for your colleagues:

1. Pinpoint the source of the resentment

2. Step outside yourself

3. Focus on solutions

4. Communicate constructively

5. Let go

If you are interested in finding out more about each of the tips, do read the complete article.
